Trump associate Stone arrested, faces obstruction charge

The case against Stone comes weeks after Trump's former national security adviser was castigated by a judge in open court and just hours before his ex-campaign chairman was due in court on allegations that he had lied to Mueller's prosecutors. He is expected to appear in court later today.

A Manafort aide in Ukraine and a political operative with alleged ties to Russian intelligence, Kilimnik was charged in June with tampering with witnesses about their past lobbying for Ukraine's former pro-Russian government.

US President Donald Trump's longtime ally Roger Stone said on Thursday that he will plead not guilty to charges of lying to Congress about the release of stolen Democratic Party emails during the 2016 presidential campaign. Frank Pentangeli is a character in the film "The Godfather: "Part II", which both STONE and Person 2 had discussed, who testifies before a congressional committee and in that testimony claims not to know critical information that he does in fact know", the indictment says.

Stone, who has a decades-long relationship with the president, was arrested by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents with their guns drawn in a pre-dawn raid on his Fort Lauderdale home Friday.

Mr Stone appeared in court in the city of Fort Lauderdale. His case will be transferred to Washington, D.C.

Friday after being arrested and charged in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, Roger Stone told reporters outside the courthouse that his charges "relate in no way to Russian collusion, Wikileaks collaboration, or any other illegal act in connection with the 2016 campaign". That fed questions about his Trump campaign contacts with WikiLeaks during the campaign and into possible coordination in disseminating the emails, which USA intelligence officials say were stolen by Russian Federation.

The indictment also further illustrates the Trump campaign's intense interest in obtaining damaging information about Clinton.

The indictment against Stone, the Associated Press reports, "provides the most detail to date about how Trump campaign associates were aware in the summer of 2016 that emails had been stolen from the Hillary Clinton campaign and wanted them released" and "alleges that unnamed senior Trump campaign officials contacted Stone to ask when the stolen emails might be disclosed".

The indictment does not name the official or say who directed the outreach to Stone.

Back then, Stone lobbied for Trump's casino business - he's said to have been the first person to suggest The Donald should run for President, in 1998.

And he is accused of "corruptly" persuading one of his associates, NY radio host Randy Credico, not to testify before the House intelligence committee in an effort to hide Stone's false statements.

After the July 22 release, the campaign reached out to Stone to determine if he had information about future WikiLeaks releases, the indictment alleges. A grand jury had heard from witnesses connected to Stone.

The Mueller investigation has also focused on Mr Stone's communications with Twitter persona Guccifer 2.0, which U.S. intelligence officials say is a front for Russian military intelligence.

Stone has claimed that Credico, a progressive NY political activist and radio host, served as his backchannel to WikiLeaks during the 2016 campaign.

Stone, who calls Credico a "rat" and "stoolie", is also quoted as threatening to take Credico's dog, Bianca, away from him.

Stone told Bloomberg News in December that he has "not been to the White House since Reagan was president". Trump is questioning the impartiality of Robert Mueller's investigation and says the probe is groundless, while raising doubts about whether a fired top FBI official kept personal memos outlining his interactions with Trump.

Stone has maintained publicly that he did not know in advance about what WikiLeaks would release.
