Sheriff: MMA fighter facing 'pending murder charges' escapes

An MMA fighter suspected of killing an ex-girlfriend and friend of hers escaped on Sunday (Monday NZT) from a prisoner transport van, USA authorities said.

Cedric Marks was taken into custody after a nine-hour manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Montgomery County sheriff's Lt. Scott Spencer said in a tweet Sunday evening.

His shirt was later found.

Cedric Marks had been in transport from MI since January 31.

In this photo provided by the Kent County Michigan Sheriff's office, Cedric Marks is pictured in a booking photo in Grand Rapids, Mich., dated January 8, 2019.

Authorities said Marks was "extremely dangerous" and requested anyone who saw him while on the run to immediately call the police emergency number, 911.

Cedric Marks - now named as a capital murder suspect for two Temple homicides - was captured after an extensive manhunt that lasted more than eight hours in the Conroe area. "I believe he is a psychopath", Scott said in a document filed to the Bell County, Texas, court, KCEN reported. He had escaped in the morning while the van was at a McDonald's in Conroe, about 40 miles north of Houston, and was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit and restraints. The protective order request was denied.

She also reported to police that Marks had broken into her home in August while her daughter, who was 9, was there.

Marks was en route to Bell County by Texas Prisoner Transport Services from Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he had been arrested by U.S. Marshalls for burglary with intent to commit another felony, Conroe Police Lt. Dorcy McGinnis said in a media Conference.

April Pease, Marks' ex-girlfriend and mother of a son, was reported missing March 17, 2009, according to The Charley Project. According to reports out of Central Texas, the Scott and Swearingin cases have Bloomington police taking a second look at Marks, although he had an alibi 10 years ago. He allegedly would threaten her every time she tried to break up with him, and even choked her until she lost consciousness twice.

Marks is now charged with burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit another felony after he allegedly broke into Scott's home in August, the Temple Daily News reported.
