Titanfall 3 Is Not in the Works, Respawn Says

That last bit comes as a surprise to everyone who caught wind of Apex Legends over the weekend and just figured Respawn also had an eventual sequel up its sleeve alongside Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. But Apex Legends is a squad-based battle royale - a format that's left a lot of us feeling worn out - and the studio says it's not working on Titanfall 3.

The full announcement is set to arrive later today at 8PM GMT.

According to reports, the game will feature teams of three battling in a map of 60 players for a total of 20 teams.

It will be set in the Titanfall universe but will not include the giant robots as part of the gameplay. Available right now, the game is touted as a fresh and polished new battle royale experience, and it's free on almost all major platforms. Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella quickly stepped in to confirm the rumors were legit, and the studio just showed the game to the world in a big reveal livestream.

The stream will happen on February 4 at 12 p.m. EST. on the Play Apex Twitch account.

Looks like everything is unlocked now? Fun. "Our stream starts at 8am PT [9:30pm IST] and we'll tell you everything about Apex Legends". Blackout has met high acclaim as a battle royale since it's release while Siege has made a name for itself in the esports space for the previous year.

Twitter user Ben Morrow has leaked a few low-res images that appear to reveal some of the characters that you'll be able to play as in the game, in what seems like a fairly Overwatch-y setup.

Like the first two Titanfall games, Apex Legends runs on a modified Source engine.

What makes Apex Legends different than Fortnite and its ilk is that each player will take on one of eight classes, each represented by a unique character.

Each player in their team will have a specific role to balance things out, with no Titans to call on to help leverage a bad situation.
