Trump's State of the Union Expected to Underscore Political Rancor

Trump's State of the Union Expected to Underscore Political Rancor

Three Democratic senators who also are running for the White House are using their invited guests to tonight's State of the Union address to spotlight differences with President Trump.

A key ally, Senator Lindsey Graham of SC, warned Republicans in a speech Monday to back Trump in the wall fight.

"I am writing to inform you that the House of Representatives will not consider a concurrent resolution authorizing the President's State of the Union address in the House Chamber until government has opened", she wrote.

President Donald Trump's two Supreme Court picks are among four justices expected to attend the State of the Union.

She, along with millions of people, will watch as Trump gives his address before a divided Congress.

Will Trump keep his 2019 State of the Union promises?

While White House officials cautioned that Trump's remarks were still being finalized, the president was expected to use some of his televised address to showcase a growing economy. "Symbolic dissent is fine, but this was a cacophony of causes: black clothing (for #MeToo), kente ties and sashes (because of Trump's Africa insult), butterfly stickers (for the "dreamers"), red buttons (for a victim of racial crime), and the more bipartisan purple ribbons (for the opioid epidemic)".

The invitation of Joshua Trump is the latest initiative of Melania Trump's Be Best campaign, in which the First Lady "encourage [s] everyone to be kind to each other and treat each other with respect in everyday life and on social media".

Yes, of all the bullied children in the D.C metro area, not to mention the entire country, Melania chose a child with the same last name as hers. Numerous newly elected lawmakers are determined to impeach Trump and hold firm against the sort of border wall spending, a symbolic red line for many in the party.

"It's time to send a message to President Trump and Senate Republicans: federal and contract workers are the backbone of our economy and their livelihoods should never be used as pawns in Republican political games", Warren said in a statement.

The speech was postponed from last Tuesday because of the partial government shutdown.

Pelosi's guests, announced by her office Tuesday afternoon, include two active-duty transgender Army officers - an implicit critique of Trump's decision to implement a ban on transgender servicemembers - and survivors of last February's mass shooting at a Florida high school, a protest of the Republican stance against stricter gun control.

Both women, known as Diamond & Silk, are African-American and prominent Trump supporters. "He is thankful to the First Lade and the Trump family for their support".

Without a doubt, the night's most explosive political moments will come when Trump turns to his border wall pitch and views on immigration policy. Xavier Becerra, California's attorney general who has sued the Trump administration dozens of times, will deliver a second rebuttal in Spanish.

"To every Republican, if you don't stand behind this president, we're not going to stand behind you, when it comes to the wall", he said in Greenville, South Carolina.
