Clippers agree to trade Harris to 76ers, report says

Trading Harris, the team's leading scorer whom the team reportedly meant to re-sign over the summer, could have been a gamble of sorts for the Clippers, after a rousing start to the season and a sudden decline in the past two months.

The trade will give the 76ers a "Big Four" with Harris joining All-Stars Simmons, Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler for a legitimate shot of not only claiming the Eastern Conference title, but talent to challenge Western Conference powers Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets for the championship.

The Clippers are looking to clear cap space in an effort to make runs and bigger-named players in offseasons to come, but on Tuesday they took on a trio of players who combined to average better than 22 points and 10 rebounds for Philadelphia.

"We are in the unique position to contend now and we think this trade positions us well for the postseason", Sixers general manager Elton Brand said in a statement.

New Orleans could have interest in the Clippers' assets prior to Thursday's trade deadline - and perhaps again in the offseason if Davis remains on the Pelicans' roster.

Headed to Philadelphia with Harris are Marjanovic, 30, a 7-foot-3 behemoth now averaging 6.9 points and 4.3 rebounds in just 10.7 minutes per game, and Scott, a 30-year-old power forward averaging 4.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game.

As ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski revealed early Wednesday morning, the team acquired Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and Mike Scott.

Harris and Butler both become free agents at the end of the season and could leave the 76ers.

The Sixers paid a steep future price to the Clippers, including rookie guard Landry Shamet, Philadelphia's own 2020 protected first-round pick and an unprotected 2021 first-round pick via the Miami Heat. Philadelphia's odds of winning the Eastern Conference also jumped from 5-1 to 9-4 at the SuperBook. The Clippers are 30-25 and have shed the salary needed to make them attractive for major free agents in the summer.
