Second woman accuses Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of heinous sexual assault

A former Duke University student has accused Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault.

Watson wants Fairfax to resign from office, Smith said.

Fairfax claimed in a written statement issued Monday that the paper had found "significant red flags and inconsistencies within the allegations".

She wrote that she did not tell anyone about the assault for years, until in October 2017, when she learned of Fairfax's campaign for lieutenant governor.

Virginia Democrat Bobby Scott has told USA media that Prof Tyson had over a year ago told him some details about the alleged assault.

The state senator said he was part of a seven-member editorial team. "It has been very hard to marshal the thoughts, let alone the words, to react", said the five lawmakers.

In a normal situation, Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax would be elevated to the Governor's Mansion until the end of Northam's term but Fairfax is dealing with a scandal of his own. And he was preparing to do just that, after scandal enveloped Northam and before Tyson accused Fairfax of sexual assault.

I will not resign.

Should Cox be elevated to governor, Republican control in both houses of Virginia's legislature would extend to the state's executive branch in the run-up to the 2020 USA presidential election.

Meridith Watson was "raped" by Justin Fairfax in 2000 "while they were both students at Duke University", Smith Mullin P.C., legal counsel representing Watson, alleged in a Friday news release.

"Ms. Watson was upset to learn that Mr. Fairfax raped at least one other woman after he attacked her".

Lt. Governor Fairfax has also shown exceptionally poor judgment in his handling of these allegations. He called the latest allegation "demonstrably false", and vowed he would not step down. "I have never forced myself on anyone ever", Fairfax said, added that he was calling for an investigation.

"I deny this latest unsubstantiated allegation". "I will clear my good name and have nothing to hide". If you demand evidence of a pattern of misconduct before you believe an accuser, effectively you're giving everyone one free assault before they begin to lose the benefit of the doubt. Only then did I realize that he had unbuckled his belt, unzipped his trousers, and taken out his penis.

Fairfax has vehemently denied that allegation as well.

Tommy Norbert, the Republican Senate majority leader who has served in the chamber since 1992, was the editor of "The Bomb", the Virginia Military Institute's annual yearbook, in 1968. Cory Booker (D-New Jersey), and former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe were among the first.

Watson has requested that Fairfax resign.

As Virginia and the rest of the nation discuss and debate racist behavior relating to some of Virginia's highest elected government officials, another state political figure is in the spotlight. "They are serious, credible, and corroborated by others". Under Massachusetts law, the statute of limitations is 15 years for rape and several related crimes, an interval that would expire this summer for the Tyson's accusation. Fairfax served on the board from 2008 to 2014 and returned in 2015.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, echoed her colleagues' calls. The details of Ms. Watson's attack are similar to those described by Dr. Vanessa Tyson. "My heart goes out to these fearless women and their families", Warren said on Twitter.

Third in line is a Republican, Virginia House Speaker Kirk Cox.

Last Friday, Northam's history was called into question after a yearbook photo arose on his page showing two people dressed in blackface and a KKK robe.
