He did get a $6 million signing bonus from them when he was a free agent in 2013, but the most he mad in salary outside of that was $3 and in his last three seasons with the Pats, he only had a base salary of $1.25 million.

The Detroit Lions signed two-time Super Bowl winning wide receiver Danny Amendola, taking advantage of their connection to the New England Patriots.

Their most recent starter at that position, Justin Coleman, reportedly agreed to a four-year, $36 million deal with the Detroit Lions on Monday, the start of National Football League offseason's legal tampering period.

That's a lot of dough. This allowed the Detroit Lions to offer James a big four-year contract which it seems he is happy to accept. He is coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he had 55 tackles, three sacks and two pass defenses.

Amendola signed a one-year $5.75m deal days after being released by the Miami Dolphins. Ever since Bill Belichick took over the team in 2000, the Patriots have had a long line of talented players leave before landing huge contracts elsewhere.

In four years in New England, Flowers compiled 164 tackles and 21 sacks.

The Detroit Lions are closing in on a deal with former Seahawks cornerback Justin Coleman to make him the highest-paid nickel in the NFL, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

After DeMarcus Lawrence and Jadeveon Clowney each received the franchise tag from their respective teams, Flowers became the top pass rusher (and on numerous boards, the top overall player) on the market. Given that, the Lions' clear need in that area and the fact that Patricia has a familiarity with Patriots players given his time as defensive coordinator in New England, all the stars aligned for this deal to transpire.

Coleman, who turns 26 later this month, had an interception and 10 passes defensed in 16 games (five starts) for Seattle last season.

Amendola, 33, has 485 career receptions, including 59 grabs in 15 games in Miami last season.
