Facebook and Instagram are down for users across the globe

This usually means we're making an improvement to the database your account is stored on.

Instagram has not issued a message through Twitter.

It appears users all over the world are reporting problems.

Some users complained that they were unable to connect to the sites at all, while others reported being unable to tag people or post comments on Facebook posts.

Facebook's main product, its Messenger service, image-sharing site Instagram and messaging app WhatsApp have all been disrupted.

Facebook's business platform Workplace was also reported to be affected by the disruption. Instagram stories and direct messages are also affected, along with WhatsApp messages for certain regions.

A slew of Facebook -owned social media sites are experiencing a worldwide outage, leaving thousands of users unable to connect.

It appears like similar problems could be causing Facebook's photo-sharing social network Instagram to be down too.

We've reached out to the company for more information on the source of the current problems, and will update if we hear back. Many have now taken to Twitter not just to confirm the outage, but to express their frustrations and their most savage, hilarious thoughts.

Users already logged in on Facebook are able to scroll through their newsfeed, but many functionalities like updating status, uploading files or even messaging aren't functioning properly. It also said the outage is not related to a DDoS attack.
