I miss having Ronaldo in La Liga - Messi

Argentina's Lionel Messi runs with the ball during an worldwide friendly soccer match between Argentina and Venezuela at Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid, Spain, Friday, March 22, 2019.

While Messi has inspired Barcelona to domestic and European dominance during his glittering career, global success has continued to elude him.

Valverde said: "Messi can appear at any moment and we already know about his effectiveness from dead balls".

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina- Argentina star Lionel Messi admitted Friday to being upset with constant criticism in his homeland, saying in an interview that even his 6-year-old son asks why his countrymen attack his performances for the national team.

"I miss Cristiano in Spain", Messi told Radio C5N.

"I would love to say that we had planned it, but it´s not true, it´s up to him".

He said: "I have more money than the budget of Espanyol this year", he said.

"We have heard about this "club of friends" thing for years". "It is always an advantage to have him playing for us".

It's the tenth season in a row that the five-time Ballon d'Or victor has reached 40 and quite frankly the numbers Messi has hit is nothing short of incredible.

Messi subsequently pulled out of the Argentina squad to face Morocco in another friendly earlier this week, a decision that has re-opened the debate surrounding his commitment to his country.

He said going from Barcelona to Argentina was hard and blamed their poor performances in Russian Federation on a swift transition from promoting younger players to take up senior positions in the team.

Messi, 31, suffered a groin injury while on worldwide duty with Argentina last week, on what was his first return to the global stage since the 2018 World Cup.

"Messi is the same player with Barcelona and with Argentina, and he would be the same if he played with Australia", Valverde said.
