PSN Name Change Functionality Finally Launches Today and Tomorrow

PSN Name Change Functionality Finally Launches Today and Tomorrow

After quite a long wait, Sony has announced that online ID changes for PlayStation Network are going live later today.

If you find that your online ID is now "Tempxxx", this change was caused by a report from another player and an investigation by moderation staff, with a finding that your online ID has breached the PSN Terms of Service.

All that said, it's also possible to change back to an old ID name. For those who change their PSN ID and later decide they want to revert back to the previous one, this, too, can be done for free. If you have a child, Sony stated child accounts can not change their online ID. Testing revealed that some games don't fully support the feature if they were originally published prior to April 1, 2018, as all subsequent titles were built using tools that support Online ID change. Sony says a small minority of games it has not tested may not support a user changing their online ID. After that, simply follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change. We've all had them, right?

PSN users in Europe can now change their usernames, meaning that embarrassing account name you set up as a teenager can be altered to reflect a new, more mature you.

There's a list of games with minor issues, such as some settings restoring to default or old PSN ID's still appearing visible. Some games may still show your old ID.

Not all PS4 games support the name change feature.

Overall this feature somehow lowers the chances of players getting banned. Let us know in the comments.

More details on the feature are available on the PlayStation blog. Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore (SIES) says that games published after 1 April will be fine, as well as a number of other popular PS4 games.

However, there's one pretty big catch to this whole ID changing deal. PS3 and PS Vita games are not supported.

The potential problems are broken up into two tiers: "issues" and "critical issues".

Loss of UGC or parts of the game may not function properly, both online and offline.

You may lose progress within games, including game saved data, leaderboard data, and progress towards trophies. Reverting back should resolve most issues.
