Facebook's biggest announcements at F8 2019

Facebook's biggest announcements at F8 2019

Addressing almost 5,000 developers at its annual F8 conference in San Jose, California late Tuesday, Mark Zuckerberg said gaining users' trust is his top agenda. With this new feature, users will be soon able to book an appointment with businesses (like auto dealerships, stylists or cleaning services, etc) within the Messenger app itself.

In addition to the Android and iOS app, Facebook has also announced to revamped the desktop version of Messenger for Windows and macOS with all of the above functionalities. According to a study by Edison Research, Facebook now has 15 million fewer users in the US than it did in 2017.

Earlier this year, the company announced a checkout feature for Instagram, and the company is working on blockchain technology that could reportedly be used to send payments.

If you're a small business owner, Facebook's got your back because they're not making catalogs more accessible through WhatsApp.

In Messenger, Facebook is introducing a dedicated space where users can discover Stories and messages with their closest friends and family. A new update will allow users to see the status updates from friends the contact frequently. It's also a response to the myriad of data privacy scandals Facebook has been mired in for the past two years.

The new option to communicate through a Messenger app designed for personal computers is part of Zuckerberg's plan to emphasize more private ways for Facebook users to communicate instead of encouraging them to share everything on their personal pages. Creators can now sell their products on Instagram, and you can directly shop from your favourite creators without even leaving the app.

Sending a message through any one of those services should see your message end up with its intended recipient, no matter which platform they're using. Zuckerberg says the new tweak will give users more prompts to discover and join new groups. It would damn well need to be after the past year or more of seemingly never-ending privacy debacles.

It is one of the most significant redesigns that Facebook has undertaken, and as the world's biggest social network with more than 2.38 billion monthly active users, it will have a big impact on digital advertising strategies.

Facebook is also adding lead generation templates to Ads Manager so that businesses can easily create an ad that dives people to a simple Q&A in Messenger to learn more about them.

Facebook Inc., the owner of WhatsApp, during its annual F8 developer summit, announced the introduction of Product Catalogue on WhatsApp business accounts.

Zuckerberg unveiled a fresh design, ditching the blue bar at the top, de-emphasising its news feed and giving greater prominence to the Instagram-style Stories feature. However, this feature is only available in countries where Facebook Dating is available. The company said this is being done to allow people to focus more on the content rather than the competitive aspect - read like and share - of it. Both are priced the same, $399 though Rift S has a model with higher storage and will cost $499.
