Biden ahead of Trump in Texas

"He has not at this point changed his position on the Hyde Amendment", the campaign said, according to CNN.

"The Hyde Amendment should not be American law", added Senator Elizabeth Warren at a campaign stop in IN, saying she would "lead the fight" to repeal it. "And the Hyde Amendment, to deny people through Medicaid and Medicare abortion rights, that is an assault on African American women too".

In 1976, Henry Hyde, an Illinois Republican congressman, wrote an amendment to a federal funding bill that stated: "None of the funds contained in this Act shall be used to perform abortions except where the life of the mother would be endangered if the foetus were carried to term". But the campaign insisted he still supported the amendment.

Just hours before, Biden reiterated his support for the amendment only to reverse course Thursday after he was castigated by reproductive rights groups and many of his 2020 challengers.

Yet not everyone is applauding Biden's sudden U-turn on the Hyde Amendment.

That has been the argument of people who support abortion rights for quite some time now. "And we're grateful that they listened".

A new report claims that former Vice President Joe Biden, who has been holding a big lead atop the Democratic presidential polls since he announced his candidacy in April, has repeatedly and knowingly lied about his involvement in the civil rights movement.

Former vice president of the US Joe Biden. "They were getting pressure from her and pressure from others".

'People are going to call it unrealistic, and I just don't think people understand how bad the problem is...'

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee issued a tart rebuke, without using Biden's name. But as a senator he voted for the Hyde Amendment. I oppose it today. That's because once a candidate changes their position on some important issue, they never change back. His campaign confirmed to NBC News this month that his position has not changed.

California Senator Kamala Harris chimed in: "No woman's access to reproductive health care should be based on how much money she has".

"I am not clear that Joe Biden believes unequivocally that every single woman has the right to make decisions about her body, regardless of her income or race", former Hillary Clinton strategist Jess Morales Rocketto stated.

A fight over adding the amendment's language to the Affordable Care Act in 2010 nearly derailed its passage, until Democrats cut a deal forbidding the use of any government health-care subsidies to cover abortion.

John Fortier, director of the Bipartisan Policy Center's Democracy Project, said a lifetime ban is essentially asking lawmakers to vote for limiting their own job prospects.

Another result in the poll concerns O'Rourke's run for the presidency, with 60 percent of Texas Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters saying he should instead challenge Republican incumbent Sen.

The abortion funding dispute added to an already rocky week for his campaign, as it earlier confronted criticism for lifting sentences for policy papers from other sources.
