The 1,214 voters polled also said they would favor Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, South Bend, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, California Senator Kamala Harris, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker over the incumbent president.

Surprises often happen in the Iowa caucuses.

"The election is going to be determined, most likely, in the upper Midwest, in the same battleground states that Donald Trump won last time and shocked Hillary Clinton", Marshall told Salon.

Biden skipped the Cedar Rapids event, the largest gathering of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to date and what amounted to an afternoon-long political talent show.

The press secretary then stated she doesn't know if the President Trump will address Biden's remarks while in Iowa Tuesday. Mr Sanders runs second to Mr Biden in most polls. "And when top-line details of the polling leaked, including numbers showing the president lagging in a cluster of critical Rust Belt states, Mr Trump instructed aides to say publicly that other data showed him doing well".

A primary is like a general election, except it is Democratic voters choosing among Democratic candidates, and Republican voters choosing among Republican candidates.

In the convention-like environment, there was plenty of swag from the candidates. Rasmussen has frequently been Trump's best poll, with no other pollster consistently mirroring its numbers.

Avenatti said he wasn't bothered by Biden using the slogan. "It's about America", Biden will say. Some chose to nudge the national front-runner, and leader in a new Iowa poll, without naming him.

Meanwhile, some candidates are very much banking their investment in Iowa ends up paying off. Delaney, for example, has been running for president since 2017 and fighting an uphill battle against low name recognition.

President Donald Trump and former vice president and 2020 hopeful Joe Biden both planned campaign stops in Iowa for Tuesday, CNBC reports. He has visited all 99 counties, started airing ads during the Super Bowl way back in February of 2018, has made 29 trips to Iowa, and has eight offices in the state. A political party is much like a brand name, and without that brand name to guide them, numerous lesser-informed voters opt to not participate in the caucuses and primaries, which leaves the decision more in the hands of those who are more intense about politics.
