SANA, citing a military source, emphasized that Syrian air defenses after midnight interrupted missiles fired by Israeli fighter jets from the Lebanese airspace towards military positions in Homs and the surroundings of Damascus.

The attack resulted in four people being killed, while 21 more were wounded, local media reported on Monday.

Israeli authorities did not remark on the incident yet.

Syrian air defences brought down a number of missiles, according to the country's military officials.

Meanwhile, Lebanese TV-channel Al-Mayadeen reported that explosions also heard on the Syria-Lebanon border, corresponding in time with Israeli aviation's low-altitude flights in the south of Lebanon.

Similar strikes were reported in the southern countryside of Homs Province, said the report, adding that the air defenses managed to intercept a number of missiles.

Sana reports that Israeli missiles were intercepted.

Israel says it will not allow its arch-enemy Iran to entrench itself in Syria, Iran's key ally.

Some personnel from these forces were injured, Rami Abdel Rahman, SOHR's chief, said.

Six civilians, including three children, were killed when Israeli aircraft and warships attacked Assad regime and Iranian targets inside Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

For years, Israel has remained largely silent about its attacks against Iran and its Shiite proxies operating in neighboring Syria.

Meanwhile, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes in Syria throughout the eight-year conflict, a lot of them were against what it says the targets of Iranian-backed militia groups, such as the Lebanese Hezbollah.
