United bids £70M for Maguire

Leicester have rejected Man United's £70m for centre-back Harry Maguire, according to Sky Sports.

Sky Sports News and the BBC claim that, while talks between the two clubs continue, Leicester have turned down United's latest offer of £70m for the England global.

The Foxes are in the market for a new central defender, as both Manchester City and Manchester United have shown serious interest in England worldwide Harry Maguire, with the Red Devils having a series of offers turned down last summer.

The tug of war for Maguire could be the saga of the summer transfer window, but why are Manchester United and Manchester City so keen on the Leicester defender?

And, while not the type to agitate for a move, the centre-back is said to have made Leicester aware he is open to exploring other opportunities on the transfer market this summer.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester's owner, would need to personally sign off any deal for Maguire, who still has four years left on his contract and is seen as a key asset in their squad.

The player himself is now on holiday, but is understood to be getting concerned at the prospect of Leicester pricing him out of a potential move.

Daily Mail also reports that the 26-year-old is content at the King Power Stadium and will not try to force through a move, although he had previously expressed interest in joining United's local rivals Manchester City this summer.

Maguire made 32 appearances for the Foxes last season across all competitions, scoring three times.
