Wimbledon Match Preview: Kyrgios vs. Nadal

Wimbledon Match Preview: Kyrgios vs. Nadal

Rafael Nadal edged past Nick Kyrgios in the second round at Wimbledon on Thursday.

And he barely mentioned Kyrgios' name while getting his point across.

The Australian was reportedly responding to some harsh criticism Nadal's uncle, Toni, sent his way.

But delving a little deeper into their dislike for each other earlier this year, Kyrgios accused Nadal of being "salty" and a bad loser.

"I really enjoyed myself on Court 1 today with the roof", Federer said. The biggest challenge for Federer may be that the second-round match will be played on No. 1 Court, which hasn't been as friendly to him as Centre Court. Why do I have to wait for him to get into his rhythm every time?

"After tomorrow it's gonna be another chance to be on court in this unbelievable place". Kyrgios is known to bring his best game and discipline against the best in the sport and Nadal is only too well aware of that.

"No, he was super quick", Kyrgios responded sarcastically when asked if he was frustrated at the pace with which Nadal was playing, before being quizzed on whether more needs to be done to speed up matches.

But a highly motivated Kyrgios sensationally broke Nadal at the start of the second and then brilliantly battled to a subsequent hold. "But that's good by you".

Speaking after the match past year, Van Uytvanck said: "I don't think that I feel more free now, we just decided that it was something we didn't want to keep to ourselves".

"But then as soon as I beat him, it's just like "he has no respect for me, my fans and no respect to the game". Just depends how bad I want it. Mladenovic later double-faulted twice more to get broken and make it 5-all. "I am playing against a top talented player, very risky player when he wants to play tennis", he said.

Kyrgios: "No. That's not my job".

"Going into this match, he's one of the greatest tennis players of all time", Kyrgios was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

Kyrgios lived up to his firebrand reputation in his first-round encounter against fellow Australian Jordan Thompson by throwing a series of tantrums aimed at both the crowd and the chair umpire, before describing himself as "an absolute lunatic".

Women's first round: No. 3 Karolina Pliskova beat Monica Puig 6-0, 6-4; No. 7 Simona Halep beat Mihaela Buzarnescu 6-3, 4-6, 6-2; Danielle Collins beat No. 12 Anastasija Sevastova 4-6, 6-4, 6-3; Cori Gauff beat Magdalena Rybarikova 6-3, 6-3.
