Derby Confirm Lampard’s exit to Chelsea

Lampard's current team, Derby, says the former England midfielder has been excused from reporting back for preseason training on Monday and Tuesday "to allow his discussions regarding a potential move to Chelsea to be concluded as soon as possible".

Lampard won three Premier League titles and the Champions League as a player at Chelsea and is favourite to replace Maurizio Sarri after the Italian joined Serie A champions Juventus.

Lampard was excused from reporting for the start of pre-season training by Derby on Monday and Tuesday, as he finalised his return to Chelsea.

Frank Lampard hasn't yet been announced as Chelsea's new manager but it seems just a matter of time before that happens.

But that leaves Derby without a manager though the Rams are now close to appointing Dutch legend Cocu, according to the Guardian.

"Frank and I discussed this eventuality".

"Should Frank move to Chelsea we've got to get our skates on", he said.

First-team coach Chris Jones will also be joining Lampard and Morris at Chelsea.

The former England global led Derby to the Championship playoff final last season, losing to Aston Villa, in his first year in management.

The 41-year-old guided Derby County to the Championship play-off final before a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa at Wembley back in May.

Gonzalo Higuaín has returned to Juventus following the conclusion of his loan spell at Chelsea, the club have confirmed.

Lampard took over the Rams job a year ago and it was his first venture into management.

Upon reuniting with Maurizio Sarri, with whom he worked at Napoli, the Argentine scored five goals in 18 appearances.

However, Chelsea seem to have signed Mateo Kovacic on a permanent deal from Real Madrid despite the ban as the team registered him last season. He said: 'The club has identified some of the coaches they are dealing with.
