Democratic debates a vote-winner for CNN

Tulsi Gabbard torched Kamala Harris, Cory Booker scorched Joe Biden, and Joe Biden just about lurched past everyone else.

During the debate the pair got into a detailed argument about Harris' "Medicare for all" healthcare plan. As Harris walked out on stage during introductions, Biden greeted her with a smile and a handshake. He said costs weren't explained in the Harris plan, and neither was the fact that people would lose employer-based coverage under her plan. Neither of the two front-runners onstage, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen.

"Go easy on me, kid", he said as Harris chuckled.

Castro criticized Biden on immigration as he touted his plan to decriminalize illegal border crossings. That is a choice that the Trump administration made for a while, at least, and it's a choice that none of the Democrats on the stage this week would repeat.

"It's a complicated issue when you get into the details, so obviously a debate where you can only talk for seconds is not the best venue to actually describe the detail", Harris said on Thursday. Cory Booker of New Jersey, who told Biden, "You can't have it both ways". Here's one exchange between Biden and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro. "It's because of you that we're able to speak truth to power about the crucial issues facing our nation today - on criminal justice, on climate and on fair trade that respects our values and sovereignty". "This, going back 10, 20 or 30 years, is just a game to make sure we hand the Republicans an election", he said. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) was conspicuous.

"You invoke President Obama more than anybody in this campaign", Booked said.

But there were still plenty of fireworks among the Democratic contenders.

California Sen. Kamala Harris hit Biden for his health plan that preserves "Obamacare" and builds on it, arguing it didn't go far enough and would leave millions uninsured.

Harris also came under fire later on for her record on criminal justice during her time as the attorney general of California.

"She put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana", Gabbard said at the Detroit debate.

Tensions have been building among party rivals in recent weeks.

Harris renewed the criticism that gave her a viral moment in the first debate by accusing Biden of making light of his work with segregationists in the Senate in the 1970s. How dare we apply current thinking to how things were done and said in the past? Biden was referring to an executive action - not a law, as he said - that temporarily deferred deportation for those brought into the USA illegally as children. While some candidates were deemed winners and losers, a real disservice was done to serious voters who were seeking nuanced discussions on the issues they care about. As a SC senator, I am all too familiar with the situation that then-Senator Biden found himself in.

The former vice president and DE senator said that he helped pass a bill that allocated $750 million for the Northern Triangle countries to try to alleviate the problems there so fewer people would migrate to the United States. "I didn't see a single solitary time she brought a case against them to desegregate".

Ten Democrats participated in the second DNC debate on Wednesday, July 31 in Detroit.

Biden is leading polls for the nod to take on President Donald Trump in 2020, and almost all of the other nine Democrats on stage attacked him at some point.

The Democratic Party has a crowded field of incredibly qualified candidates with varied experiences and skills.

"Democratic voters have some important decisions to make about which plan and which candidate can do the most to make health care more affordable".
