BlueAndGold - Notre Dame Ranked 9th In Preseason Coaches Poll

Clemson checked in at No. 1, while Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio State rounded out the rest of the top five.

The Aggies closed out Head Coach Jimbo Fisher's first season ranked No. 16 in the Coaches Poll riding a Southeastern Conference-best four-game winning streak that saw A&M defeat a pair of ranked teams, No. 25 UAB and No. 8 LSU, and earn a dominating 51-23 victory over NC State in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl.

The preseason college football poll ranks Michigan at #7 and to many people's surprise Michigan State at #20. Last season, Georgia began the year ranked No. 4, one spot behind where it starts its 2019 campaign.

Clemson won a majority of the first-place voted Thursday and will open the season ranked No. 1 in the poll for the first time in program history.

The Cougars, entering their eighth season under coach Mike Leach, earned 274 points to edge out No. 22 Syracuse this year and their place in the Coaches Poll ranking also suggests WSU could open the year ranked in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, which is scheduled to come out on August 19.

College Football Playoff Selection Committee rankings come out November 5.

The 65 coaches who decide how this poll shakes out every week seem to have some confidence in the Nittany Lions despite their key losses.

Utah State received the equivalent of a No. 35 ranking in the others receiving votes category. But this year marks the first time it's the Tigers and not 'Bama at No. 1.
