Suspect responsible for deadly shooting at Walmart in El Paso identified

Unnamed law enforcement officials according to ABC News and the Washington Post have identified 21-year-old Patrick Crusius as the suspect who allegedly walked into an El Paso, Texas Walmart around 10am local time on August 3, opening fire and killing 19 people while injuring over 40 others.

El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said police were investigating whether a document understood to be an "anti-immigration manifesto" posted online shortly before the shooting was written by the suspect.

The Cielo Vista Mall and Walmart where the shooting took place has been secured but is still locked down, Gomez said.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the Walmart and adjacent businesses, including the mall and a movie theater, were shut down as law enforcement officers scoured the area in an initial search for additional possible suspects. Two of the injured were children who were being transferred to El Paso Children's Hospital, he said.

"The scene was a horrific one", said Allen, adding that numerous 26 people who were hurt had life-threatening injuries.

Saturday's violence comes on the heels of another deadly shooting in California, which saw a 19-year-old gunman open fire at a food festival on Wednesday.

Another 11 victims were taken to the University Medical Center of El Paso, according to spokesman Ryan Mielke.

"Today, unfortunately, the update provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. the regrettable part is that they've confirmed that 6 Mexicans have lost their lives, and there are 7 injured in El Paso, Texas", Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said. He didn't give any details about the victims, including the one who died.

Miami Valley Hospital spokeswoman Terrea Little said the hospital had received 16 victims, but she couldn't confirm their conditions. The governor said the thoughts, actions, and crimes allegedly committed by the shooter "are not who and what Texas is and we will not tolerate it".

President Trump ordered that American flags at the White House and government buildings be flown at half-mast in memory of the victims of the mass shootings over the weekend in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.

The mall complex is near Interstate 10 and on El Paso's east side.

The shooting is believed to be the eighth deadliest in modern USA history, and took place in El Paso, where the majority of the population is of Hispanic descent. In another instance he said the "Republican Party is also terrible" and criticized them for being "pro-corporation".
