Basketball: DJ Cooper suspended after drug test reveals he's pregnant

Cheating in drug tests is not new in sports where players use prosthetic penis or catheterisation to substitute their urine for clean urine.

Cooper was poised to join the Bosnian national basketball team, even applying for citizenship from Bosnia and Herzegovina, when he abruptly announced that he would be going on a hiatus for "family-reasons".

Maybe basketball players shouldn't play while pregnant. But it wasn't for performance-enhancing or recreational drugs that came up. But the testing revealed that there was a presence of human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG.

The ban was initally kept under wraps, with Cooper issuing a statement past year that he wanted to take some time off to focus on family matters. That's a hormone manufactured by the placenta during pregnancy.

Guard D.J. Cooper was hit with two-year suspension by FIBA in 2018 after providing another person's urine for a doping test that took place.

You probably haven't heard of a professional basketball player by the name of DJ Cooper-that's OK.

As it turned out, Cooper had used the urine of his pregnant girlfriend for the drug test but got caught by the FIBA.

The suspension, which was applied retroactively, will end on June 24, 2020.
