Qureshi, who arrived here in the Chinese capital early Friday to hold consultations in the wake of India revoking special status of Jammu and Kashmir, apprised officials in Beijing about Pakistan's concerns and reservations.

The restrictions on public movement throughout Kashmir have forced people to stay indoors and closed shops and even clinics. The region has been in lockdown since Sunday night, with mobile, landline and internet networks cut off.

Since he first came to power in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally invested a major chunk of his time to building and strengthening foreign relations, and especially with the Gulf, and the effort has paid off.

Kashmir has a history of low voter turnout, a reflection of discontent as well as boycott calls by separatist groups seeking the region's independence or merger with Pakistan.
