China assured full support on Kashmir issue: FM Qureshi

The government of India is being cautious due to a possibility of Pakistan-backed terrorists carrying out any attack, news agency ANI reported.

Addressing a press conference after his successful China visit, Qureshi said the current situation in Kashmir was discussed with Chinese leadership in detail. The Kashmir issue is a dispute left from the colonial history. "China will continue to firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding its legitimate rights and uphold fairness for Pakistan in worldwide affairs".

Jammu and Kashmir was put under complete lockdown on August 11, a day before the government of India revoked Article 370 that gave special status to the state.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi made the comment Saturday after meeting in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart and other top leaders.

The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief, Gilgit-Baltistan governor, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) president would be added to Prime Minister Imran Khan's seven-member committee to recommend responses to developments in occupied Kashmir, a notification from the PM Office said. He said China believes that unilateral actions that complicate the situation should not be taken.

China urged India and Pakistan to avoid unilateral actions, and to seek a new path of peaceful coexistence.

"I have shared with China that the Pakistan government has chose to take this issue to UN Security Council".

"China completely supported Pakistan's stance on the matter", he said.

Responding to a question about Pakistan's response, the ambassador said, "The world saw our restraint even during the Pulwama crisis where India violated our sovereignty and sent aircraft to bomb our side of the territory, even in the face of that kind of aggression our response was very measured". "I will also brief them of the gross human rights violations in the occupied valley", he had said.
