Vladimir Putin shades Emmanuel Macron following comments on growing Moscow protests

Russian President Vladimir Putin got from Marseille to Fort de Bregancon on a helicopter of the special detachment "Rossiya", which was specially delivered to France disassembled on a cargo plane, Life reports.

"We called this summer for freedom of protest, freedom of speech, freedom of opinion and the freedom to run in elections, which should be fully respected in Russian Federation like for any member of the Council of Europe", Mr Macron said. While in the country, Putin and Macron are expected to hold a series of bilateral talks addressing issues affecting the European region and other parts of the world. Moscow has been rocked by weekly protests for more than a month after the authorities barred opposition candidates from running in an election for the city's legislature in September.

Putin also bristled at Macron's urging him to respect democratic principles in Russian Federation after weeks of anti-government protests in Moscow.

WASHINGTON - The United States tested a new ground-based cruise missile which can hit a target after more than 500 km of flight, weeks after withdrawing from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty banning such systems, the Pentagon said Monday in a statement.

Macron was since November past year rocked by the yellow vest protests over social inequalities, although they have now eased somewhat.

"There is a real opportunity to put an end to the conflict that has been going on for five years", he told reporters in a press conference at the start of talks.

Macron responded that in France, people could "express themselves freely and demonstrate freely. but they cannot disturb public order".

"Relations between Russia and the European Union have an irritant, a subject of disagreement, which is Ukraine, which is a problem we have to resolve", Macron told the Russian leader.

The US is now trying to gather together a maritime coalition against Iran, which Washington says is aimed at protecting oil shipments in the Persian Gulf against Iranian interference.
