Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's personal account gets hacked

The account of Twitter Inc Chief Executive Jack Dorsey was hacked on Friday afternoon, sending public tweets and retweets that included racial slurs and curses published to more than four million followers.

A Twitter account for "Aqua" tweeted: "If I Go Jail I'll Still Be Chuckling".

Via Twitter, a spokesperson confirmed that Dorsey's account had been hacked, and they were investigating.

While the offensive Tweets have since been deleted from Dorsey's account, users are still shocked by the virtual attack, with Twitter reportedly stating to BBC that they are now investigating the matter.

Other than getting accounts unsuspended, the group has not said why it hacked Mr Dorsey's account.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The offending tweets have been largely removed, but some of them remain.

"If you can't protect Jack, you can't protect... jack", one Twitter user quipped.

For now, Twitter has only said: "There is no indication that Twitter's systems have been compromised". Last year, the company permanently banned right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his Infowars show, citing abusive behavior. In 2016, his account was taken over by the hacker group OurMine, which also attacked other high-profile social media leaders, including the Facebook account of CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
