Dorian is tied with the Labour Day hurricane of 1935 for the most powerful Atlantic hurricane to ever make landfall. Dorian's track relies on several factors including the position of the high-pressure system over the Atlantic Ocean, just off the US east coast. "Everyone should take shelter immediately as winds will increase rapidly and unpredictably after the eye passes", the National Hurricane Center warned. His motor keeps dying on him'.

"A couple of days ago we were anxious it was going to stall over Florida and now it appears as though it is going to stall over the Bahamas", said Steve Goldstein, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's liaison to FEMA.

Its pressure, which bottomed out at 910 millibars, is significantly lower than Hurricane Andrew's when it made landfall in south Florida in 1992 (the lower the pressure, the stronger the storm), and data taken by Hurricane Hunter aircraft flying inside the storm show that Dorian may still be intensifying.

"Do not be foolish and try to fearless out this hurricane", Bahamanian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said at a press conference Friday.

The Bahamas Press tweeted that the storm had killed one - Lachino Mcintosh, seven.

The young boy is reported to have drowned while his family was trying to seek shelter.

Areas of the Abaco islands were reported to be underwater after the storm hit the Bahamas' Elbow Cay soon after midday (16:00 GMT) on Sunday.
