Alabama teen, 14, confesses to murdering entire family

A 14-year-old confessed to shooting and killing his entire family at their Alabama home late Monday night, including his 5-year-old sister and two brothers, who were 6 and 6 months old, police said.

WAFF-TV reported that the teenager, who has not been identified, confessed to shooting his father, stepmother and three siblings.

Young told reporters that the teen met with deputies in the driveway and told them he had been in the basement when he heard gunshots on the main level of the home and ran out the door.

Mr Young said he could face adult charges, including capital murder. Young said the handgun was "illegally in the residence", but would not comment further.

Authorities tell us there were enough discrepancies found in the 14-year-old statements that the sheriff and investigator interviewed him and upon being confronted with those inconsistencies, he admitted to shooting all five people.

According to law enforcement, the 14-year-old shooter is now assisting investigators in locating the weapon, a 9mm handgun, that he said he tossed nearby.

Deputies found one adult and two childre dead, and one adult and one child with critical injuries.
