A 44-minute win gives Serena Williams 100th US Open victories

"Physically, I'm feeling great", Williams told ESPN of her injury. I was going very slowly. Whatever the reason, she lifted her game to such a level after the first couple of games that the contest was soon reduced to a joke. "Wow, I do not remember that at all". "Haven't beat her yet. I'm a little biased obviously", said the 37-year-old.

Ranked as a No. 8 seed, Williams is looking to win her 24th Grand Slam singles title, tying the record for most grand slam wins with Margaret Smith Court. That was as remote as the moon and the stars. "But I love what I do".

But here she is, a few weeks short of 38, her hunger to win still fresh and her game still commanding enough, when she's healthy, to take her deep into most tournaments.

Before the match, talk was about an ankle that Williams rolled in her previous outing.

Williams was relentless against her intimidated opponent. Wang gained only one point on her own serve in the second set.

She won the victor count 25-0 as Wang only managed to win 15 points in the entire match.

There can be no higher praise for Wang than the fact that Serena believed she had to step up her game or risk losing.

Wang looked nothing like the confident player who had upset No. 2 Ashleigh Barty and hadn't dropped a set before the quarterfinals. The combination of her nerves and Williams' fierce focus was simply too much for her to put up even modest resistance. "The power, like, I can not handle it".

The American didn't get much resistance from her opponent - dropping just one game as Wang failed to hit a single victor.

"It's not easy to play against her", Wang said. Yeah, she [is] just great.

Serena next faces Elina Svitolina, who in some ways is an advanced version of Wang. The loss kept Konta from becoming the first British woman to reach the semifinals of all four Grand Slams in the Open Era. Svitolina advanced to her first major semifinals at Wimbledon this summer, where she lost to eventual champion Simona Halep. "When I first started here I was like, 16".

Serena Williams attends the "Queens of Tennis" experience hosted by Nike at William F. Passannante Ballfield on August 20, 2019 in New York City. She earned the lone victory in their most recent encounter, in the round of 16 at the 2016 Rio Olympics. "You know, I would have loved to have come through that and come through a challenge like her, but I guess it will just have to be next time".

For the second night running Tiger Woods was in the crowd giving plenty of vocal support to a fellow sporting legend, with the champion golfer following up his evening with Rafa with a seat in the stadium to witness more history for Serena. "She has a big serve".

"I don't try to up any intimidation factor".

Monfils was stoic throughout Svitolina's match - quite opposite his flamboyant, high-energy style of play.

"I have played her three times or four, I think".

Ukraine's Elina Svitolina continued her dominant run against Johanna Konta with a 6-4 6-4 win on Tuesday to reach the US Open semi-finals for the first time.

When you have had as much success as Serena Williams has enjoyed, it is impossible to remember every win.
