Humberto strengthens into Category 1 hurricane

Humberto strengthens into Category 1 hurricane

A turn toward the east-northeast is expected later today.

The rainfall is expected to hit Bermuda late on Wednesday or early Thursday.

It warned beachgoers in the U.S. states of Florida and North Carolina that heavy swells "could cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions".

Hurricane Dorian is approaching Florida as a possible Category 4 storm, and "Everyday Millionaires" author Chris Hogan explains whether small businesses can still get insurance ahead of the storm.

A storm system the National Hurricane Center said in its 5:00 a.m. advisory has an 80 percent chance of development within five days and 50 percent within 48 hours, is now projected to track north of the Caribbean islands.

The hurricane center said at 11am EDT that the centre of the storm is about 1145 kilometers west of Bermuda and is moving east-northeast at 11km/h, with maximum sustain winds of 140km/h. Additional strengthening is forecast through Wednesday, when the eye of the storm is expected to be out in the open Atlantic.

Heavy rains, as well as high surf, are forecast to affect Bermuda throughout the week.

Humberto comes about one week after Hurricane Dorian slammed into Mountainous Bahama and Abaco islands, killing as a minimum 50 folks.

"We want to be a part of the rebuilding and recovery from Hurricane Dorian, and this donation will help with these efforts".

The disturbance labeled "1" in the map above, 950 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, has little chance to develop immediately (0 percent according to the Hurricane Center) and just a 10 percent chance of developing over the next five days.

Meanwhile, two more tropical waves are being tracked by the National Hurricane Center.

Closest to the United States, showers and thunderstorms in the eastern Gulf of Mexico could become better organized as they drift toward the western Gulf in a few days. "But, other than that, the system will have little to no impact on our state".

Environmental conditions will become more conducive for the gradual development of Invest 97L.
