Arsenal’s Emery defends decision to captain Xhaka

World Cup victor Ozil is the club's highest earner but has struggled for game time this season, and the Gunners would prefer to loan the 30-year-old out rather than allow him to make the odd appearance.

And with a trip to Old Trafford now on the horizon, Arsenal will turn their attentions to reviving their stuttering push for Europe.

Arsenal are now preparing for their crunch Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

"It will be coming full circle", admitted Holding.

"Me, I am excited waiting for this moment".

"It was incredible to see the people's reaction to Rob Holding, Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin, who played his first 15 minutes", Emery said of his fit-again defenders.

Despite the speculation, Aubameyang ended up staying at The Emirates, and he has made an electric start to the new campaign, scoring six goals in six Premier League games.

The Gunners have been without a permanent captain ever since Laurent Koscielny created a fiasco and forced is way out of the club, leaving Emery short of defensive options as well.

"I spoke with him and we want to change that opinion outside because that respect that he has inside, is very, very important", he added.

But he admits that it is paramount that Manchester United do everything to get Pogba back on the pitch as they need the Frenchman against a team of Arsenal's stature.

"For us, the games against Arsenal have always been great for the spectators, and for us".

Firstly, yes, I know - this is not a good lineup. It is a nice pressure and it is the competition. "It is pushing everyone to be better".

In addition, the midfielder also trails behind Ozil and Bellerin in terms of seniority at the club, with both players having been on the books since 2013.

"I thought "oh no". "I thought 'oh no!' Because it was so raw for me it hit a spot and I got a bit emotional with it".

"But really I trust and believe in him".

"The long days in the gym where we had been sat on a watt bike just ticking over for 30-40 minutes, they'd been dark times", said Holding.
