Tougher days are yet to come for Manchester United, predicts Roy Keane

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel was not happy with Paul Pogba's performance on Monday.

The report from The Athletic claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came close to landing Mandzukic in the summer window, with the United boss still said to be interested in bringing Mandzukic to Old Trafford.

The 6ft 3in centre-forward would provide a different option to the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, who have scored a combined five goals in the Premier League this term.

Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Arsenal left their with nine points from their first seven games of the season, which is their worst ever return at this stage in a Premier League campaign.

They state the Premier League side are "systematically observing" the forward's performances for the Ligue 1 club this season, and while he might have been "one of the names" on their list past year, he would now be "one of their priorities".

For what is worth, Solskjaer said United will try to sign a striker during January although it remains to be seen whether Mandzukic will be a target or not.

They've given him the job and the contract, so support him and let him get on with it. Give him a couple of transfer windows.

But, Solskjaer has now admitted that while strikers were available to sign over the summer, he could not find the right one. "He did not want to be here, and what is the point in having players who do not want to be here?" "I think we should be in and around the places behind there". When questioned whether he still sees United as a top-four side, Solskjaer replied: "I think so, yeah". With 135 goals to his name for Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich, Atletico and Juve, he has a proven track record of scoring in the Champions League and Europe's top divisions and could well be the answer to Manchester United's problems. "You've got Leicester, there are loads of teams wanting those positions and that's where we'll be in and around".
