Hot Apple rumor: 'iPhone SE 2' could launch next year

Kuo says the new SE 2 will be physically similar to the iPhone 8, which was released in the fall of 2017, but feature 3GB of RAM and the same A13 Bionic chip in the new iPhone 11 models.

If you recall, people loved the iPhone SE because of its compact, iPhone 5-like design in an era where brands came up with smartphones having a large footprint. "We expect that the iPhone SE2 shipment will reach 30-40mn units in 2020". Previous rumors have claimed that the iPhone SE 2 is expected to have a 4.7-inch LCD screen and, although the price is unknown, it is likely to be around $ 400.

At a time when Apple has historically skimped on putting its latest chips in lower-end devices - for example, both the seventh-generation iPod touch and new 10.2-inch iPad only include Apple's 2016-era A10 processor - it's encouraging that the new model will get the same performance specs.

Ever since Apple launched the iPhone 3GS following the iPhone 3G, and except for a notable miss, that has continued all the way up to the iPhone XS following the iPhone X, the Cupertino company has always launched an S series refresh.

An updated iPhone SE will definitely help Apple in attracting customers in price-conscious markets and customers who prefer a small iPhone. In September, suggesting Apple was working on the rumored device.

Surrounding all the talk about new hardware and tech being packed into the upcoming iPhones, Kuo has detailed that it will be called the iPhone 12.

Kuo says the iPhone SE 2 could be a great upgrade choice for iPhone 6/6 Plus users.

While it seems very likely that the original iPhone 8 would be discontinued with the release of the "iPhone SE 2", the fate of the iPhone 8 Plus is less certain. It stands to reason that a new iPhone SE would keep those specifications. It seems unlikely that Apple would produce an "iPhone SE 2 Plus", but it's not outside of the realm of possibility.
