Sulli Dead - K-Pop Star & Actress Dies at 25

Leading South Korean K-pop singer and actress Sulli was found dead in her house south of the capital on Monday (local time) in what police said may have been suicide.

On Sunday, her manager reportedly talked to Sulli, whose real name is Choi Jin-ri, but went to check on her on Monday after he wasn't able to reach her. The Guardian reported police said the singer was experiencing "severe depression" at the time of her death and "it seems that she took her own life but we are also looking into other possibilities".

Previously in one interview, Sulli opened up about her panic disorder and social phobia, saying in a teaser for her reality show Jinri Store past year: She had been experiencing social phobia and panic disorder.

We apologize for conveying such sad and unfortunate news. "We extend our deep condolences to the deceased", it added.

Sulli resumed her music career back in 2018 as she featured on South Korean artist Dean's single Dayfly. Sulli lived alone, and police said they didn't find any signs of foul play, according to TMZ.

Sulli has been struggling with online abuse by netizens throughout her career as part of f (x), ending in her departure from the group.

She debuted in 2009 for f (x), which quickly became one of the top K-pop girl groups worldwide. But in 2014, she took a hiatus from the group as there were a lot of malicious comments from netizens.

Her death sent shockwaves through the K-pop fan community.

Sulli was known for speaking out against criticism she received online, according to AP, as well as acting as a rare mouthpiece for feminism in conservative South Korea.

"I'm sorry I never got to buy you mango shaved ice".

She said in an interview: "I've had panic disorder ever since I was young".
