John Giles sees justification for Guardiola's Liverpool match concerns

For the third straight Premier League game, Liverpool managed to earn points after conceding first, miraculously taking the full three at Villa Park despite trailing 1-0 in the 87 minute.

After beating Genk in the Champions League on Tuesday night, the Reds now turn their attention back to Premier League matters as the top two teams in the division face each other at Anfield on Sunday.

Speaking on Monday, Klopp also aimed a dig at Guardiola by saying he "wouldn't mention tactical fouls" - an issue raised in the past by Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manuel Pellegrini.

Sadio Mane was booked for diving against Aston Villa (Nick Potts/PA). But I say it's not lucky, ' he said. "I do not dive".

Mane has won Liverpool match-winning late penalties against Leicester and Tottenham already this season but Guardiola pointed out his critique of the Senegal star came alongside compliments for Liverpool, who are six points clear of City in the Premier League.

What Liverpool has done last season and this season many, many times is because they've this incredible quality and this incredible talent to fight until the end.

"Jurgen said he knows Sadio better than me", said Guardiola. I'm completely fine with it, and I couldn't have more respect for Pep Guardiola. He did a year ago something similar, where he was out for a game and then I think a couple of days later he was back on the pitch.

"I prefer to play in that [rather] than when there is nobody", he said.

"With Jurgen he tries to be positive, when he says it's not like this".

Despite fixtures between City and Liverpool having grown in significance in recent seasons, Aguero insists that meetings with locals rivals United are still the ones the club wants to win most.

'So it was a praise for Liverpool, not just about one action. Hopefully I can clarify everything for Jürgen. I'm not thinking of rotating my squad.

"Pep Guardiola is undoubtedly a great manager, but these are the kind of games where we really see what he's made of".
