Giuliani Was Doing Something Else in Ukraine

U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland talks to his his lawyer while testifying at a House Intelligence Committee hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump on Capitol Hill in Washington.

Wednesday marked a awful day for the former New York mayor when scrutiny on him intensified with new reports on his business dealings from The New York Times and The Washington Post.

CNN previously reported that federal prosecutors investigating associates of Mr Giuliani have launched an investigation that could include criminal charges ranging from conspiracy, obstruction of justice, campaign finance violations and money laundering, according to a subpoena sent to at least one witness and seen by CNN.

In October, Mulvaney defended Giuliani's involvement in US-Ukraine affairs by saying "the President gets to use who he wants to use".

The talks took place as Giuliani met with Lutsenko in NY in January and then in Warsaw in February while he was also seeking information from Lutsenko on Biden and his son, Hunter, and allegations that Ukraine and not Russian Federation had meddled in the 2016 election, the paper reported.

"I didn't direct him, but he's a warrior, Rudy's a warrior. but you have to understand, Rudy has other people that he represents", Trump said, adding that Giuliani has "done work in Ukraine for years".

In an interview with Bill O'Reilly this week, he said, "No, I didn't direct him, but he is a warrior". Rudy went, he possibly saw something. "Rudy has clients other than me". "He's done a lot of work in Ukraine over the years".

O'Reilly during the radio interview asked Trump whether the president would do the call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the same way. He used to be the mayor of Recent York Metropolis, a large mayor, and I would love him to name you. There is no evidence of wrongdoing by either Biden in Ukraine. Simply put, we were playing the hand we were dealt. Giuliani and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were in regular contact about Ukraine. "So we followed the President's orders".

Giuliani has repeatedly denied that he had business dealings in Ukraine, and none of the deals was ever finalized.

The sources told the paper that another agreement, drafted in March, called for Giuliani Partners to be paid $300,000 from the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice for help locating the purportedly stolen assets.

A draft proposal reviewed by the Times more directly spelled out that Giuliani would have represented Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukraine's former top prosecutor.

The report comes as President Donald Trump's personal lawyer continues to face questions about his work for Trump following the release of a whistleblower complaint at the center of impeachment proceedings involving the President and Ukraine. Giuliani, himself, has not been charged with any crimes.

"NYT #FAKENEWS: I did NOT pursue a business opportunity in Ukraine, as they misrepresented", the president's lawyer tweeted Wednesday night.

Giuliani played a key role in Trump's takedown of Cohen, appearing on multiple networks to portray Cohen, who he'd once praised, as "an incredible liar" and a "scumbag".

The attorney, Robert Costello, said Giuliani "at my insistence" had called Trump "within the last day" to emphasize that he had not been serious when he said he had an "insurance policy, if thrown under the bus".

Giuliani had raised the prospect of "insurance" in comments that he's said were jokes but that also seemed like veiled warnings.
