Police looking for Netherlands stabbing suspect

The stabbing happened at Hudson's Bay department store in Grote Marktstraat, The Hague's biggest shopping area.

Dutch police say three people were injured in a stabbing in The Hague, Netherlands, on Friday night.

Police spokeswoman Marije Kuiper told The Associated Press on Friday that it was still too early to say whether there was a terror motive behind the attack in the Dutch city. The Hague police later confirmed via a tweet that there were three victims.

The stabbing happened in the heart of The Hague shopping district where supermarket chains and luxury shops were all lit up with early Christmas decorations.

They asked for patience in confirming more details of the attack, saying that the "complexity" of the situation meant it would take time.

"We are still looking for the perpetrator".

In a statement, Hague police said they were seeking a man aged 45-50 wearing a shawl, a black jacket and wearing a grey tracksuit.

The street was busy with people looking for Black Friday shopping bargains.

Police helicopters flew over the scene and several emergency vehicles were on site, the correspondent said. There was no hint of panic among the public soon after the stabbing.

Police have urged the public to contact them if they see anyone matching the description of the suspect.
