Atsu assist secures Newcastle a point at home to Manchester City

Guardiola feared City had suffered a terminal blow to their title ambitions last season when they were beaten at Newcastle in January.

Liverpool moved top of the Premier League standings after beating Brighton and increased the gap to 11 points from second-placed Manchester City and Leicester City.

Pep Guardiola has revealed for the first time that he is open to extending his contract at Manchester City beyond next season.

They head into the game on the back of their 2-1 win over Chelsea FC at The Etihad last weekend - and England legend Owen is backing the Citizens to claim all three points when they travel to face the Magpies this weekend.

"We played at a good level", he said.

Jonjo Shelvey further dented Manchester City's hopes of retaining their Premier League title as they were held to a 2-2 draw at Newcastle.

De Bruyne's thunderbolt looked set to earn Man City all three points on Saturday, but Jonjo Shelvey would respond for Newcastle with a wonder-strike of his own. 'I'm comfortable with the players, they're incredible people. We will see what happens this season and next season. "All we can do now is to try to win all our games and see where it takes us".

"We found a way and today we found it again but unfortunately, at the end, we conceded a goal", Guardiola said.

Previewing his side's Premier League trip to Newcastle, the manager discussed the Champions' defensive situation, declaring he would like to witness an improvement in the way his side defend counter-attacks.

Raheem Sterling's 21st-minute goal put City ahead, only for Newcastle left back Jetro Willems to equalize four minutes later from a cut-back by Miguel Almiron, who registered his first assist in 24 games since joining from Major League Soccer.

The fact his wife Cristina Serra has returned to live in Barcelona has cast doubts over Guardiola's long-term plans in some quarters but the City manager insisted he feels like Manchester has become a second home. We help you discover publicly available material and act as a search engine.

The 27-year-old Magpies midfielder scored this third goal of the 2019/20 campaign against Man City on Saturday and as result is the club's current leading goalscorer this season.

"We're going to have to reflect and change it round very quickly", he said.

"We forgot to play [last season]".
