Iran Will "Never" Have A Nuclear Weapon, Says Donald Trump

Iran Will

Speaking in the White House press briefing room alongside Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Mnuchin said Trump is issuing an executive order authorizing sanctions against "any individual owning, operating, trading with or assisting sectors of the Iranian economy, including construction, manufacturing, textiles and mining". The Iran Deal. It was just something that it is no good for our country. "We still need to focus minds, but it's probably coming soon", a European Union diplomat said before Friday's emergency meeting.

In the wake of the killing of the Iranian top military officer, Iran attacked USA forces at the Ayn Al-Asad Air Base and a facility in Erbil in Iraq with 15 ballistic missiles.

The administration has pushed back against accusations that Trump acted recklessly, insisting that longtime U.S. foe Soleimani was on the brink of launching an attack and had to be stopped.

"We don't know exactly which day it would've been executed but it was very clear, Qassem Soleimani himself was plotting a broad, large-scale attack against American interests and those attacks were imminent", Pompeo said.

Democrats insist the move was hasty and claim there wasn't adequate intelligence to justify killing Soleimani, but Trump says they should be happy he's dead.

While President Donald Trump said he would not respond further militarily, Washington is intent on maintaining pressure.

He said the United States had "specific information" on threatened attacks "against American facilities, including American embassies, military bases".

Tensions between the two nations flared after the United States killed one of Iran's key military commanders, Qassem Soleimani, in an air strike in Iraq early this month.

At a reelection campaign rally in OH on Thursday, Trump referred to Soleimani as "the world's top terrorist".

Iran has gradually rolled back its commitment to the accord and the recent escalation of tensions between Iran and the USA has dealt further blows to the pact. Pompeo was asked about this discrepancy and whether the Trump administration had told senators multiple embassies were targeted.

Tensions between the U.S. and Iran remain high as fears of world war 3 have not yet subsided.

Define what you mean by imminent? "I didn't learn anything in the hearing that I hadn't seen in a newspaper already", he said of the briefing. We get it wrong.

Pompeo spoke to reporters along with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

It's the first time a senior US official has publicly acknowledged what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday: that intelligence points to a missile strike from Iran as the cause of the tragedy.

"As a result of these actions we will cut off billions of dollars of support to the Iranian regime", the U.S. treasury secretary said.
