Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter were on their way to the legendary National Basketball Association player's Mamba Sports Academy in California on Sunday morning when their helicopter crashed, reports said.

He was a five-time National Basketball Association champion, 18-time All-Star and led the league in scoring twice.

His death rippled through the MMA community, as seen in the social media reactions below from UFC president Dana White and many more.

Five people were killed in the crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. "He will live forever in the heart of Los Angeles, and will be remembered through the ages as one of our greatest heroes", said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.

Bryant and O'Neal played together for the Los Angeles Lakers for eight seasons and won three NBA Championships in 2000-2002.

The Grammy Awards pre-telecast ceremony opened with a moment of silence for Kobe Bryant.
