Knicks could follow Warriors, Lakers examples by hiring an agent as president

Is two days before the trade deadline the right time to fire your president and chief decision maker?

Pressure shifted onto Mills after Fizdale was sacked following a 4-18 start to his second season.

New York Knicks fans have something to smile about today, and it has nothing to do with the team's red hot two-game winning streak.

Durant told Yahoo during the summer that he had never considered signing with the Knicks, a once unthinkable admission for a superstar free agent in his prime. Recent draft picks, like Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina and Mitchell Robinson, haven't yet shown that they can have long careers in the National Basketball Association. Mills assumed more power following Jackson's dismissal in 2017.

This season took a particularly odd turn in early November after a blowout loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team was 2-8 at the time and has gone just 13-28 since.

There is a rhythm to the tumult at Madison Square Garden. The case was settled the next year for $11.5 million.

Mills was named the executive vice president and general manager of the Knicks in September of 2013.

Whoever replaces Mills has another key offseason approaching.

The GM doesn't have a guaranteed contract for next season, so he's likely toast whenever a new president comes aboard.

Knicks owner James Dolan has long coveted Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri to run the franchise's basketball operations, but complications involving Ujiri's contract status, and New York's reluctance to surrender draft-pick considerations as potential compensation to Toronto are already dimming Dolan's desire to pursue Ujiri over the next several months, league sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Another reason to make the Mills' move now instead of after the season ends is to do research on other possible candidates outside Ujiri and traditional GMs currently employed.
