Twins acquire pitcher Kenta Maeda as part of three-team trade

The deal is pending review of medical records for the involved players.

■ The Red Sox will add Alex Verdugo, 23, from the Dodgers.

The details of the trade have not been announced.

The Red Sox will reportedly pay half of David Price's 3-year, $36 million salary and receive outfielder Alex Verdugo and pitching prospect Brusdar Graterol.

For his six-year career, all with the Red Sox, Betts has a.301/.374/.519 batting line with 139 homers, 470 RBIs and 613 runs in 794 games. Per Baumann, the Red Sox - who he deems a "de facto public institution" - rid themselves of a "once-in-a-generation player" all to save money that, in the grand scheme of Boston's operation, amounts to relatively little, adding to the narrative that Major League Baseball owners prioritize profit over everything else.

The third team in the trade is the Minnesota Twins, who will get starting pitcher Kenta Maeda from the Dodgers.

In 2018, Betts led Boston to a World Series title and was named American League MVP.

Another aspect of these trades is that the Dodgers also to appear to still be below the luxury tax threshold, so they should be in a good position to sign Betts to a long-term deal when he presumably reaches free agency after the 2020 season. Price has three years and $96 million remaining on his contract.

Now that Mookie Betts is going to be a Dodger, Buster Olney questions whether Los Angeles has enough to win a championship. He's also a member of the Mexican national team. In the minors last season, the Venezuelan was 7-0 with a 1.92 ERA across three levels.
