Treasury Department hands over Hunter Biden's information despite withholding Trump's tax records

The Republican chairmen of two Senate committees wasted no time after President Donald Trump's impeachment acquittal Wednesday before opening up a new area of inquiry related to Hunter Biden's foreign business activities. Hunter Biden was on the board of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings at the same time that Joe Biden was the Obama administration's main liaison to Ukraine following its revolution to overthrow a pro-Russia president.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) sent a letter to Secret Service Director James Murray Wednesday asking for "all dates and locations of travel, global and domestic, for Hunter Biden".

For [Treasury] to go willy-nilly handing out financial information of private citizens ... is simply outrageous.

Trump took an interest in the Bidens' relationship to Ukraine after video surfaced from January 2018 of Joe Biden bragging that two years earlier, he forced Ukraine's president at the time, Petro Poroshenko, to fire a prosecutor in exchange for receiving $1 billion in USA loan assistance.

The letter by Grassley and Johnson underlined that the president is getting the investigation he wanted, after his request for the president of Ukraine to do him a "favor" and investigate the Bidens and the 2016 elections prompted a House Democratic impeachment inquiry.

The final vote was 52-48 on abuse of power and 53-47 on obstruction of Congress.

Two Senate committee chairmen have requested Secret Service documents on information regarding Hunter Biden's travels to China and Ukraine during his father Joe Biden's tenure as Vice President, they announced Thursday, just one day after President Trump was acquitted by the Senate in an impeachment trial for his own conduct in Ukraine. As the Senate Republicans' records requests show, the quest for corroboration continues.

The two powerful GOP chairmen want "Hunter Biden's travel arrangements to conduct business related to his dealings in Ukraine and China, among other countries, while he received a protective detail." pPlease describe the protective detail that Hunter Biden received while his father was Vice President. Yahoo Information studies that Grassley and Johnson have sought "one of the vital maximum delicate and intently held paperwork in all of federal legislation enforcement - extremely confidential suspicious process studies (SARs) filed via monetary establishments with FinCEN, an company of the Treasury that is helping to police cash laundering".

Trump told reporters in October 2019 when asked whether Ukraine should probe the Bidens, "I would think if they were honest about it, they would start a major investigation into the Bidens".

A spokesman for Grassley wouldn't say if the Finance Committee is also seeking Biden's tax returns.

The Treasury Department declined to comment.
