Coronavirus: London case brings United Kingdom infections to nine

The comments come after the UK's ninth coronavirus patient was confirmed in London - the capital's first case - who is believed to be a female Chinese national, according to Sky News.

"I would like to thank the clinical team who treated Mr Walsh in hospital, as well as all the NHS staff who are working hard with other health organisations to limit the spread of coronavirus and treat the small numbers who have contracted the illness".

She said the virus had been "passed on in China" and the patient had been transferred to a specialist NHS centre at Guy's and St Thomas' in London, CNN reported.

The 83 British coronavirus evacuees held in Arrowe Park Hospital, Merseyside have been released from quarantine after 14 days.

As Euro Weekly News understands, experts had previously warned that London would be at greater risk than other cities in Europe due to its large population and high number of visiting tourists.

And two Britons were among another39 people newly diagnosed with the virus on the Diamond Princess cruise ship docked in Japan - bringing the number infected on board to 175.

The U.K.'s most recent patient contracted the virus while in China and Professor Paul Cosford, director for Health Protection and medical director for Public Health England, told BBC they expect more cases involving worldwide travelers.

Earlier this week, the British government declared that the coronavirus was a "serious and imminent" threat to public health.

Head also pointed out that of the 1750 tests carried out in the United Kingdom so far, more than 99 per cent of those tested have been negative, The Guardian reported.

Two of them are known to be Global Positioning System who worked at a nursing home, Worthing Hospital and two medical centres in the Brighton area.

Chris Whitty confirmed the case known as Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from coronavirus in China jumped to more than 1,350, with more than 60,000 recorded infections, as senior figures in Hubei province were dismissed amid criticism over the handling of the outbreak.

"As soon as I knew I had been exposed to a confirmed case of coronavirus, I contacted my GP, NHS 111 and Public Health England", the 53-year-old said.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus and what can help stop its spread?

A spokesman for the Department of Health said the "quarantine is expected to end tomorrow" but declined to comment on the test results of the patients. The vast majority of infections and deaths have been on mainland China.
